of the second season of the original TV

Time," "The Trouble with Tribbles," and
"Mirror, Mirror." According to Steve
Domzalski, one of the game's developers,
"Star Fleet Maneuvers" concentrates on
the Permanent Wilds portion of the game.
Expect three more "Trek" expansions
in 1997. "Prime Directive" will introduce
other Star Fleet personnel into the game,
such as Spock's father Sarek. After that,
"Alien Encounters" will explore aliens
and their far-out technology. If you're a
fan of Abe Lincoln in space or the giant,
planet-eating amoeba, you'll have to
wait until "Final Frontiers" to see them.
No word yet on when we can expect
the "Spock's Brain" card.
• Speaking of brains, the folks at The
United States Playing Card Company
know a good thing when they see it. Last
summer, they picked up the rights to pub-
lish "The X-Files" CCG. The game that hit
stores in September is the same one that
NXT Games had designed for Donruss.

USPC handed out the game's first pro-
motional card, "No One So Paranoid," at
Gen Con in August. The card featured the
trio of X-Files' characters known as the
Lone Gunmen, two of whom were on
hand to sign cards. This was the first
step in USPC's heavy promotional blitz
for the game. "It's not because the game
is weak," assures Ronnie Noize, USPC's
marketing manager for CCGs. "Fox wants
to make sure that the game is top quali-
ty and that we are promoting it properly."
"The X-Files" is available in 60-card
decks for $9.50 or 15-card boosters for
$2.99. Each of the more than 350 cards in
the set features an image captured from
video or an original piece of art. The first
edition focuses on characters and events
from the TV series' first two seasons.
USPC plans to release an expansion in
January or February 1997. This set will
contain approximately 120 cards and
introduce elements from the beginning of
season three.
The object of the game is to weasel
out your opponent's secret X-File before
he or she finds yours. "You have a crew
of agents and there's equipment," Noize
explains. "There are witnesses and bluffs

HISTORICAL FANTASY
• In August, City of Bondage, a board-
game version of the "Redemption" CCG,
premiered at Gen Con. Distributed by
Talicor, the new game features smaller
versions of the original "Redemption"
cards. Unlike the card game in which
players oppose each other, the board
game is non-confrontational. Players
work together to avoid being defeated by
the game. Heroes encounter traps and
evil characters in a rundown city. The
player who overcomes these challenges
and gains the most victory points wins.
Cactus Game Design, the company
behind the original CCG, expects to have a
"Redemption" player's guide available
before Christmas. A "Women of the Bible"
expansion is also in the works.

CYBERPUNK
• Hackers beware. "Proteus," the first
expansion for Wizards of the Coast's
"Netrunner" game, arrives this fall. The
latest brainchild of "Magic: The Gath-
ering" creator Richard Garfield intro-
duces several interesting factors into the
already tense battle between the lone
hacker - the Runner - and the all-power-
ful Corporation.
In the basic game, the runner breaks
into the Corporation's data forts and steals
files. The Corporation counters with devi-
